Poker Rules
- Before I begain describing poker I am going to provide you with a
basic glossary of terms.
- The game of poker itself is fairly simple. The object of the game
is to have a higher five card hand than your opponent(s). In the most
basic game of poker you use a 52 card deck and are delt 5 cards and
try to make the best poker hand you can.
- There is a very distinct order of hands so there is no confusion as
to who wins the pot. The list of hands goes from highest being number
one to lowest being:
- Royal Flush - A-K-Q-J-T of any Suit.
- Straight Flush - 5 cards in a row of the same Suit.
- 4 of a Kind - 4 of any number.
- Full house - 3 of a kind and 2 of a kind.
- Flush - 5 card of the same suit.
- Straight - 5 cards in a row.
- 3 of a kind - 3 of any number.
- 2 pair - 2 of one number and 2 of another
- pair - 2 of any number
- When the game is started there is usually a blind in or ante. After
you get some or all of your cards there is usually a round of betting.
- In a round of betting anybody may raise the bet but in order to keep
playing you must at least call. If you choose not to call or raise you
must fold.
- When you have all your cards and your round(s) of betting is done
it is time to show your cards if you have beaten your opponent you get
the pot.
